Academic Scheduling

The academic scheduling team coordinates strategic scheduling across all instructional
areas, including credit, workforce development, and community education, to provide
students and community members with flexible, predictable, and accessible learning
opportunities.
Montgomery College is working to make academic schedules more transparent, flexible, and easier to understand. Our goal is to offer course options that reflect students’ needs across locations, modalities, days, times, and term lengths, helping students plan their education and make steady progress toward completion.
We are developing a collegewide scheduling framework to guide how programs are offered. This framework will consider an appropriate balance of in-person, online, hybrid, and short-term courses at locations throughout the College, while supporting access, affordability, and workforce needs.
- Clearer, more student-friendly schedule information, including course locations, meeting days and times, modalities, term lengths, and course notes.
- More transparent practices for waitlists, class cancellations, and added sections.
- Course schedules designed to support planning, advising, registration, retention, and timely completion.
- Ongoing opportunities for students to share scheduling preferences and identify barriers that affect enrollment.
- Continued exploration of evening, Friday, and weekend course options.
- Expanded opportunities for selected programs to be offered in shortened academic terms
beginning in Fall 2027.

Student feedback will help shape future schedules. Montgomery College is exploring recurring surveys, focus groups, and other feedback tools so students can share preferences about class times, locations, modalities, and barriers that may affect their ability to register and attend. This information can support both individual advising conversations and broader College scheduling decisions.

As part of this work, Montgomery College is identifying programs that may be offered in shortened academic terms. Faculty will receive professional development and support to design or redesign courses for accelerated formats, expanding flexible pathways for students while maintaining academic quality.
