Start Strong with the First Year Experience (FYE) Program
Your first year at Montgomery College is a time of exciting growth—both academically and personally. Our First Year Experience (FYE) program is here to support you every step of the way. Through our new student orientation, workshops, events, and the First Year Seminar course. Our FYE program helps you get connected, feel empowered, and make the most of your college journey.

New Student Orientation
Have a successful start at Montgomery College. Through New Student Orientation (NSO), we'll answer your questions, connect you to campus resources, and help you make the most of your college experience. New degree-seeking students are strongly encouraged to complete NSO before registering for classes. Access New Student Orientation online.
FYE Activities and Resources
New Raptors–Register for STSU 100: First Year Seminar
The Summer Bridge Program includes STSU 100, along with fun and engaging activities. This experience is designed to help you prepare for college success by bridging the gap between high school, employment, military service, and college.
- Enhance student success strategies.
- Understand degree requirements and the transfer process.
- Develop a personalized education plan.
- Learn about campus resources and support services.
- Learn about financial aid and scholarship opportunities.
- Meet other first year students.
Register Now! (space is limited).
Students should not pay for the course after registering. A hold will be placed on their account to prevent the course from being dropped for
non-payment. Students who earn a final grade of at least a ‘C’ will receive a tuition
scholarship which makes the course FREE. Otherwise, they will be billed. For questions

- STSU 100 First Year Seminar: Designed to assist the student in adjusting to college. Includes academic and student services available, study habit techniques, career and educational planning, and adjustment concerns. Especially intended for students during their initial semester of enrollment. One hour lecture/discussion each week; one semester hour. (Formerly DS 107)
- STSU 101 Seminar for International Students: Orientation course for international students. Includes study skills, academic regulations, the American educational system, individual educational and vocational goals, communication skills, and American customs. Especially intended for students during their initial semester of enrollment in conjunction with American language developmental course offerings. Two hours lecture/discussion each week; two semester hours. (Formerly DS 104)

FYE Student Ambassadors

FYE Student ambassadors play a key role in assisting first-year students with the transition to college.
Student ambassadors are a select group of student leaders dedicated to serving first-year students by fostering support in academic performance and social development inside and outside the classroom.
What will I do as a Student Ambassador?
- Participate in First Year Experience (FYE) courses including the Summer Bridge Program, New Student Orientation, Welcome Week and other engaging events designed for First Year students
- Promote FYE, Student Life and College/campus events and activities
- Serve as leaders, mentors and a resource for new MC students
Benefits of being a Student Ambassador
- Develop relationships with MC faculty, staff, and students
- Enhance self-awareness and leadership skills while expanding work experience with transferrable skills
- Develop or enhance presentation and facilitation skills
- Increase and widen awareness and knowledge of the College/campus
Qualifications to become a Student Ambassador – note may vary by campus
- Enrolled at MC at time of application and while participating in the program
- Completed at least 12 semester hours at MC
- Earned an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher at MC
- Make a one academic year commitment to the program (fall/spring)
- Available 6-7 hours each week
- Completed of STSU 100 or STSU 101 with a grade of ‘B’ or better (preferred)
